Rouvalis Winery (Oenoforos)

Rouvalis Winery was founded in 1990 by Angelos Rouvalis, an oenologist and graduate of Bordeaux, who comes from a vine-growing family of Aigion. It was one of the pioneering establishments that contributed to the upgrading of the quality of the Greek wines in the 1990s.

In 1994 the prototype gravity-flow winery and the first experimental vineyard were established.

Today, 30 years since its foundation, the winery passes into the hands of a new generation headed by Theodora Rouvali, an oenologist with a MSc in Viticulture and professional experience in many vineyards (France, Chile, Spain, New Zealand) and Antonio Ruiz Pañego, a Spanish oenologist with lot of experience at some of the best Grand Cru of Burgundy.

INFORMATION FOR VISITORS

  • Why it’s worth visiting:
The Slopes of Aigialia are situated in the northern Peloponnese -just 120km from Athens- in the mountainous region above the town of Aigion. They are uniquely beautiful, as they are overgrown landscaped balconies over the Corinthian Gulf.
This combination of high mountains and sea offers various interesting destinations:
    • Routes of vines, wines and raisins
    • The trip from Diakofto to Kalavrita with the cog railway through the beautiful gorge of the Vouraikos River is a unique experience (which geologically shows off the formations of the Slopes of Aigion). Also, there is the European path E4.
    • The Kalavrita ski centre and the monastery Mega Spileon
    • The Church of Taksiarches (15 km from Aigion), monasteryaxa39 that dates from 1450 A.C. The local preserve “Rodozachari” (made of rose petals) is produced here from the private rose gardens.
