Peloponnesian PGI wines (“Protected Geographical Indication”), in accordance with national and European wine legislation belong to an “inferior” category to that of PDO wines, but, to a great extent, they also demonstrate originality and formality in relation to the varieties and their areas.
As with all PGI wines in the whole of Greece, Peloponnesian PGI wines, depending on their zones geographical width, can be divided into 3 levels:
- PGI Regional wines (of Administrative Units – Peripheries),
- PGI District wines (of Regional Units – former Prefectures) and
- PGI Areas Wines.
